This time we were more focused on the dragon rider. I designed this character, Minerva, long time ago. I even made up a Hamlet style tragedy for her lol. Finally I got this chance to paint a portrait for her. (We usually put more weight to dragons.) I really wish to make Minerva's expression right in this one. Hope you guys like her smile :D
I tried a unfamiliar way of rendering this time. I really like the art and design of Even Amundsen! I watched his tutorial on CG Cup, and tried his way of painting color first, and then adding shadows and highlight, and other effects. It's very interesting process and I had a lot of fun. I feel it's more convenient in some way? As each step I only thought about one thing, color or value. And if I wanna change the color, I can just edit the color layer. I'm still getting used to it. Because in this way, I need to complete almost of all the details of the design before rendering. I used to worry about the details until the polishing step. Maybe I can figure out a mid way between it and my old way.
